Program day November 2, 2024
A cultural confrontation with the conflict over the Oder
Three perspectives on the Oder in artistic representation and in conversation
For the people of the Oderbruch, the relationship with "their" Oder has always been contradictory: it feeds and waters, threatens and endangers, divides and connects, is friendly and harsh. The containment and management of this river has been part of their daily business for centuries. However, in the debate about the power regulation concept, referred to by critics as the Oder expansion, the Oderbruch people are at best onlookers, and even in view of the fish kill in 2022, they had to feel like affected spectators.
In our event, three perspectives on the Oder will be presented in musical readings: the interests of the settlement area with concerns about flooding, the interests of nature conservation with the concern for an intact river ecology and the work of water management with the demands of navigability, agriculture and flood protection. After a lunch break, we will enter into a joint discussion.
