The church in the village: theater and games

Program day 5 October 2024

A play has also been created as part of our annual theme of CHURCH. What is it about?

Thomas is the church elder. He is currently preparing the celebration for the anniversary of his village church the next morning - starting with a church service. But now the pastor has fallen ill - due to overwork, as there are now 15 churches to look after in his parish. Thomas will therefore have to preach himself. For him, the upcoming sermon is a last opportunity to draw his neighbors' attention to the importance of their church, as it provides them with a common place where they can meet and discuss their lives together as well as questions about their existence. However, the declining cohesiveness of his congregation weighs so heavily on him that he cannot find any words of encouragement. Angelina appears in this situation. She is a stranger in the village, apparently a tourist. As it soon turns out, she has a broken relationship with the church. She challenges him with her questions and the contradictory stories from the church chronicles, in which Thomas seeks inspiration for his sermon.

A dialog about rural communities, the value of village churches and the challenge of faith in a time of deceptions about what a God-fearing life is.

The play draws on conversations with Christians that were held in 2024 on the annual theme of CHURCH in the Oderbruch.

We look forward to receiving your registration at k.anders@oderbruchmuseum.de.

On this day, the castle will host three experimental games presented in the course of the project "Art meets church" were created this summer together with young people. They combine the digital world with the analog world in a fascinating way. So if you've always wanted to turn a hologram by hand or hear stories about the Oderbruch while painting with a magnetic switch, you should definitely come along on this day. Jakob and Stefan will be waiting in the museum workshop with new game ideas for anyone who wants to experiment a little.

Admission is free, but a donation is appreciated.
