The smithy belonged to the Altranft blacksmith Ernst Charlé and bears witness to the golden soil of the old craft. The historic forge, which has hardly changed, is still in working order and has been used by blacksmith Silvio Rademann since 2025. The most important tools and equipment are still labeled and explained for visitors. There are also drawings and explanations of farriery on the walls of the shed. An annotated photo exhibition on our annual theme „Craftsmanship“ (2016) with photographs by Ingar Krauss is on display in the courtyard.

Searching for materials and shapes in the Oderbruch. An experiment in craftsmanship
In 2016, the results of a special craft experiment were presented in the forge: Which special shapes and materials can be found and reinterpreted in the Oderbruch region. Designer Stefanie Silbermann, wood turner Christian Masche and carpenter Sven Ahlhelm embarked on this experiment. The Bonschi, our Oderbruch lollipop, was also created in this context and can be seen in the Studiolo.

The blacksmith in the village. An installation by Axel Anklam
The Bad Freienwald artist and blacksmith Axel Ankam also created a small installation in the forge for the 2016 annual theme of craftsmanship. His boreads drifted out of the forge like billows of smoke under the ceiling. The disappearance of blacksmithing from the villages was the subject of an accompanying discussion that took place in the smithy.
